Experiment 3

To create this experiment, I drew and painted the image in separate parts. First, I copied a portrait of a girl and then scanned the image into photoshop. I changed the levels of the drawing so that the outlines were more prominent. Next, I used water colour to paint the hair of the girl and scanned the image on top of the drawing. I then created several water colour droplets and painted the neck area. To add more water colour  droplets I duplicated some of them and changed the hue and saturation to change the colour.

Experiment 2

To create this experiment I used one of the the photos from my photo shoot and used the pen tool to cut out just her body and face so that I had no background. I then lowered the saturation so that the image turned black and white. Next, I duplicated the image and put it behind the original image. I blurred the image to create a shadow behind the image. I added a gradient using red, blue and yellow over the top of the image and shadow.  Finally,  then added a white background and added the name of the band and album name.

Experiment 1

I found this image on Pinterest and I liked the style of the painting because it has got elements of messiness but also has a clean drawing underneath. When I was coming up with my digital draft I thought about elements such as; acoustic music, imagery of heaven and sadness. The dripping paint creates the effect that the girl is crying.
I created my own experiment by copying a portrait of a girl using pencil. I then traced the drawing lightly onto another piece of paper so that I was not painting onto the original drawing. Next, I used water colours to try and emulate the original painting from Pinterest. I tried to create the same effect by letting each layer cry before adding more colour over the top.
When I finished my experiment, I was happy that I managed to create the same elements that I wanted to portray. However, I think that it could have been improved if I had let more of the layers dry. This would have made the experiment more like the original painting.

Designers Copy

Here is my designers copy that I created using an image I found on Pinterest. For the background I used an image of a city and used Gaussian Blur to create the same effect as the original image. I then used fine liner and wrote the name of the band, album and song titles. Next, I added circles and used effects such as gaussian blur and inner glow to create the effect of the light.

Contact Sheet

Proposal for CD design

1. Outline the game / artiste / band that you are creating the design.  What / who is it similar to? What Genre is it?

The design for my album cover will be based around the singer Gabrielle Aplin. The image used for her album is very simple but stands out from any other albums. Although I am basing the cover around a solo artiste, I will

2. What is the name of the product?  Does this have an impact on the design in any way?

The name of the product will be 'nevaeh'. This will have an impact on the design because nevaeh is heaven backwards. This means that the colour scheme will be relaxed and use pale/pastel colours. This also matches how the music is on the album.

3. Discuss the theme/feeling of the album and how this will impact on the visuals.

The inspiration for my album is Gabrielle Aplin. Her music is usually acoustic, slow and folk/indie. Her music is usually quite depressing which will mean that there will be images such as clouds or rain on the cover. I will also use colours such as blue because people relate this colour with sadness rather than happiness.

4. Discuss the colour scheme that you are using.

I will use pale/ pastel colours such as pale blue, pink and orange. These colours are a mix of warm and cool as I want the colour scheme to be subtle. The colours used for the backgrounds, and images will be unsaturated as this creates a subtle colour scheme.

5. Will you stay with conventions or steer away? Why? What has been omitted.

I will mostly follow the main conventions of the digipack. I will place the institutional conventions such as the barcode, websites and track list on the back. I want to keep the front of the digipack mainly images and little text as I want to keep the relaxed feeling that I am trying to portray.
